6. Why is the SVG spec so enormous?

· Some committee members were highly passionate about particular features
o Sometimes it was necessary to say “yes” to everyone’s pet features to keep spec marching forward
· Adobe (ASV developer) was OK with the huge spec because (back in 1998-2001) it had the capacity to implement everything
· Some committee members felt the huge spec was OK for browsers because SVG would be “profiled”
o The hope was that browsers would implement SVG Basic instead of SVG Full
o Mozilla didn’t “read the memo”, and implemented the whole spec
o And then other browser vendors followed
